No, not at all! There are lots of opportunities for people to work on site, in the office, and both. The construction and real estate industry includes construction companies, trades, architecture firms, engineering companies, developers, planners, and real estate companies.

Is WRKS an employment agency?

WRKS is not an employment agency, nor is it a recruiter or placement agency.

What are tags and how do they work?

Tags are descriptors used to add more detail to a user’s profile. These include skills tags (such as Plumbing, Interior Design, and Scheduling), Education tags (such as Undergraduate and Apprenticeship), and Certification tags (such as Professional Engineer and Project Management Professional).

Companies will use tags in their searches for candidates. WRKS uses these tags to match job seekers with companies.

To keep things sane, we limit the number of tags an job seeker can put on her or his profile and the number of tags a company can search for at a time.

How much does WRKS cost?

I think I could qualify for several different roles

That’s great! Keep your profile as detailed as possible. You can use a variety of tags (up to 5 tags for each of skills, education levels, and certifications) in your profile to help companies find you.

How does the process work?

Job seekers build their profile with their education and experience details (like a resume), as well as with tags (for skills, education, and certification details). Companies use tags to search for candidates who best match their needs. When a company requests a connection- and the job seeker accepts this request- a chat window opens allowing the hiring conversation to begin. Companies can also save lots of headache and time by coordinating and collaborating with the entire hiring team within the app.

Does WRKS use my location?

Yes, WRKS will ask for your location in order to match you with local companies or job seekers.

What was the inspiration for creating WRKS?

We noticed several big gaps:

First, companies are struggling to find enough qualified people at all levels. Even though the industry is booming, there just aren’t enough people coming into the field. It seems to get worse every day at older workers move on to other careers or retire.

Second, the process of hiring is painful. On average, companies will spend $4200 (in some cases lots more) in hard costs and 52 days to make a hire. These two gaps mean that companies can’t bid more work, they lose more to competitors, they have to juggle projects more, and they can’t grow.

Third, job seekers face just as much of a challenge. The best way to land any job is to grow your network and show those you meet how you and what you do match their needs. But most people don’t have the time or experience to make this work. Instead, they play the numbers game: they reply to as many job postings and fire off as many resumes as they can hoping at least one will “hit.” As you can image, the numbers game is demoralizing to the job seeker and has the perverse effect of inundating the employers with scads of applications to wade through.

We thought, “What if businesses had the tools to overcome these obstacles? What if we could invite more people into the industry and make it easy for them to get hired? And what if we helped people find all sorts of professional opportunities in a satisfying, meaningful, and growing industry?” And that’s what we do.
